A simple question...do games look just as good on an LCD as they do on a CRT? I play games like Q3, DOD, Jedi Knight II (mainly 3d shooters)...would this look all shoddy on an LCD?

The biggest difference for FPS gaming is response time. If the response time is too high, you will encounter ghosting, where a blur occurs behind something moving rapidly across the screen.
Many LCDs have problems with ghosting, but some do not. Check up on the specs and try to get hands on with any LCDs you are thinking about.

LCD's are big $$$ but the carity is awsome. As Jman said, make sure the response time is quick (lower the number the better) or else you'll get ghosting which will drive ya crazy. I can notice it on my monitor if the backround is black (I can see my cursor kinda trail behind slightly).

But good luckin having manufacterers actually show the response time, from what I've heard they like to keep it a secret

aaaaaaaaaalright, so....people with LCD's, which ones do YOU use? (I'm looking for the one's playing FPS here, do you get this ghosting ?)

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 770 TFT and have played Quake, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, IL 2 Sturmovik, etc on it at 1280x1024 with no problems. Rather nice in fact. However, this is utilizing an GeForce2 MX 100/200 card on a PIII 550 system. Will be trying on a GeForce3 Ti500 this weekend Dual Xeon PIII 1 ghz system or an Athalon XP 1800+ system and let you know. Might try both if I get frisky.

I have a Viewsonic VG191b 19" and a KDS RAD-5 15" both hooked up to my Gainward GF4 Ti4600. The Viewsonic is hooked up via DVI and the KDS is standard 15-Pin. The clarity of the LCD is great compared to a CRT. To me at least everything looks better than any CRT I have used. I made sure I got a screen with a 25ms response time. I don't notice any ghosting in games if it is there it is slight and doesn't detract from the game. A lot of companies don't list the response time for their LCDs but sometimes the info can be found by searching around. Any display that I couldn't find the time for I did not consider when I was making my purchase decision.

thats a damn nice digital camera dude, that picture is great. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for that viewsonic?

LCD's are a very subjective thing...your best bet is to go to you local BB/compusa/etc and just look at the different models...

what one person thinks looks great another may hate...

IMHO the ONLY lcd's I've ever liked are the Viewsonics...almost any other brand just looks subpar AFAIC

one thing is I've been looking up on LCD's and most of them only have a .30 dpi...does this take away significantly from their clarity? And would MOST LCD's experience ghosting?

I would say most do, considering most CRT's do to some degree.

On my monitor, no. But if I'm looking for it, I can notice it. This is probably true with most CRTs. Dunno about LCD's cause I've never seen one for more than a couple minute at places like BB, CompUSA, etc. I'm just assuming most LCD's have ghosting much like CRTs, only it may be more noticeable. We can check 'em out at BB sometime, cause I wanna buy Original Sin on DVD anyway

Only problem with displays at Best Buy and CompUSA and such is the image quality sucks. I looked at the monitor I bought at BB and it didn't look too great yet when I get home it looked so much better.....so don't always trust displays at BB or CompUSA or such, different video cards produce different image qualities.

Thanks, the camera is a Nikon 990. I just used no flash and increased the exposure.

I think I paid around $950 for the Viewsonic... Holy crap, I just checked shopper and the lowest price now is $1,268! I guess the price went up. I got mine from ecost.com.
