hey, my dad's laser broke down. He's gonna take it to his friend's and try and get it fixed, but I get a feeling the printer's about done.

So now we gotta buy a new laser, I've been looking at some of the low end lasers, they seem cheap but the consumables costs is pretty high. The Samsung ML-1210 for example was 300 cdn at Staples, but the toner life is only 2500 pages and each cartridge costs 100 bucks.

The laser we are using now is a Panasonic KX-P6500, and it allows for refills. They are supposed to last 2000 pages each and we go through one every 2-3 months. These refills are only 20 bucks though, so its okay and we got a drum for free last year.

So would it make more sense to spend more cash for an HP 1200 or something? Its double the price of the Samsung but its carts are supposed to last around 6000 pages (i think), and the carts are only slightly more expensive. So in the long run, it would seem like the HP is a better buy.

Any opinions and recommendations?

i've had an hp 6l as my main office printer for 5 years - ~3500 pages/cartridge , they even sent me thingies to fix the paper feed rollers that were worn out - indestructible and superb quality

low end i just got one of those lexmark e210 for about $80 - higher cartirdige cost , but i'll only be using about 1 per year

how bout brother printers? actually, they r so much cheaper in the states than canada

brother 1440 was going for 200 US last month on sale, and up here its 500 cdn, thats around 350 US

plus the refills and drums are more expensive, its about 90 US for a 6000 yield refill in canada, but only 70 in the US, and that's the same product ordered over the Office Depot website. Plus the coupons are worth more in the States since they are all 15 off 50 or 20 off 75 ... grrr

what a rip..but it seems like the cost / page for these might be the cheapest, cept i also have to replace teh drum every 20000 pages, and by then i might as well buy a new printer
