possible to connect hub to router?

i've run into a problem. i used to leave on a computer 24/7 to share an internet connection to my
network. today that computer broke down. i have decided i want to get a router connected to my
cable modem to eliminate the need for a computer to be kept on.

this is the senario. my cable modem is in the basement and the problem is that all my ethernet
cables run into a hub in a room upstairs. i do not want to rewire the house, so i was hoping i could
use an ethernet cable from my hub upstairs to connect to the a router in the basement to share
the internet connection. im not sure if i explained it very clearly, but basicly i want to connect the
computers connected to the hub down to the router by using a 'daisy chain' (i think its called that)
from the hub to the router. i was wondering if that was posible...

thx.

Basically, you want to use an existing ethernet connection and hook it up to your hub, using an existing cord that is in your basement? It should be possible, as long as the cord isn't too long.

That's what I am panning on doing. My hub will be one floor up. I am hooking the Modem/Router in near a computer, so I can use a management cord. Than, one cord from the basement will go into the hub, simple as that.

No problem at all. You can connect a Router to a single computer, a hub or a switch. You'll have to use a crossover cable or use the crossover jack on the hub if there is one.

Yeah, that's the one to use.
The crossover/uplink jack shares sometimes the port with the next regular jack so you can't connect a cable there when you're using the uplink/crossover jack.
