Any idea what could be causing me to get so many kernel 32 errors? I am and have been getting several errors and crashes relatting to pagefualts, general protection, and kernel32.dll.
Hark! Here's one now!

caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 017f:bff711be.

What should I look for? I have already reinstalled windows. I just bought a new hardrive and it has a fresh install and I get this error, not alot installed on that drive yet. I also got this error on my old system, and on a second system I have now.
Of course nothing is the same on all my systems, but here is my new system configs.

AMD 1700+ Xp 256megs DDR (was 512, but got out of memory errors and had to cut back)
(Where do I modify Vcache settings)??

I boot from 2 different drives, both have the same errors at times. One is an 8gig Maxtor the other is a 60 gig maxtor. 60 gig is a fresh win98se install. The 8 gig is the old install from a system I sold, it updated to the new hardware in this system. I had the same errors in the old system also (k6 2 333)

This system is a Pci Ati All in wonder video card, other systems had Agp or Isa video cards.
This system is a Biostar M7VIB MB, using on board sound, others were not and used Soundblaster cards, Pci or Isa.

This one and K6 2 333 have onboard USB.

Printers vary a great deal, currently installed on this sytem is Both an HP parralel and an HP USB printer. Niether on old system.

Had 2 cd burners in old system, have one Sony 12x burner and one DVD dirve in this system.
Have a linksys 10/100 network card .

I think that's about it, I get lots of errors, mostly related to kernel32.dll (should be a buck private!)

I don't think heat is a problem. I have plenty of ram for the programs I run. Errors occur randomly it seems, except for one program that crashes everytime it tries to load {could be a bad program, but don't think so, installed fine, but never ran).

Sometimes I have nothing open and get the errors, other times I am running the world and never get an error.

Any help would be apreciated!

What OS?

This is happening on 3 different systems with different ram and CPUs?

Are you using the same OS installation CD? Is it a retail CD? Do you have another one you can try?

Did any of these systems work properly before? If so what's changed?

Errors like that could be caused by many things: bad memory, heat, power supply problems. If all of them had the OS installed from the same CD I'd suspect a corrupt CD.

If 3 different systems are all doing the same thing, you're going to have to narrow it down to what's the common denominator between them all.

You should set the BIOS settings to the default SAFE settings.

What OS/Version?
What is common to all the installations? As it is multiple systems and as it is the same ( exact same? ) error... either a portable piece of hardware you slave to all systems, software common to all or perhaps your power...
Do you have a UPS ( not a surge protector ) on each system? If so, how old is it? Do the non-florescent lights in that room ever dim or grow brighter at times?
Speaking of environmental issues: how warm is it in that room? And how many watts does each power supply put out ?
Are they All W98SE? I'd think it would be really odd if W2K and W9x gave the same errors, especially on a BSOD.
Do you swap memory between systems?
And the all important :) when did it start? It looks like a while ago, but did any of the systems ever work 'normally'?

Thanks for the replies guys, I tried to post yesterday and lost the net all day! Durring the reply and couldn't send it.

What in generall to look for causing these types of errors, Page Faults, General Protection, and Kernel32.dll??

All of my systems are different. Only thing in common is using Win98 Se on them. Some have UPS some just surge protection.

Have old desktop case from an old 486SX25 with a newer old MB and Dx4 100 Amd CPU. It has 32 megs 72 pin ram on one stick. 32 bit controller card and 32 bit Video.

The -pentium 133 had 16 megs ram on two sticks, but I got a cheapy deal on 2 sticks of 32 so now it has 64 megs. I think it is EDO, not sure 72 pin!

These two systems are more for my kid and backups, They get less errors, but do get them, same types but not exactly the same ones or programs.

Had a AMD 333 with 3 sticks ram, 32 megs, 64, megs, and 128 megs. It started out with the 32 and I added the extra two bigger sticks over time. I had a 13gig WD and an 8gig maxtor drive in it, along with a Memorex Cdrw and a Sony CDRW. Got rid of it at Chirstmas. Kept the 8GIG drive and Sony CDRW.

Oh yes. when I got rid of the AMD 333, I rebuilt it first and the Pent133. The 333 was in a big 10 bay tower case I wanted to keep, and the pentium was in a real nice mini tower I gave away. After switching cases the pentium is about the same. The 333 seemed to work without errors, but with the newly reformated 13gig drive there wasn't much installed to have errors.

All my stuff was on the 8gig I kept. I installed it into this new 1700xp I built and Win98se updated to the new hardware (After I fought to the death with it to install a couple things) I still have the same errors as on the 333, doesn't seem to have many new errors, but still has the old ones.

Since This new system I built has about the exact same errors as the Amd 333 had, I beleave it is mostly software based! I installed a brandnew fresh 60 gig drive and Win98Se full version. WHen I boot to the 60 gig drive I still get Kernel32.dll errors, page fualts, and general protections at times in various programs. They seem to be about the same as on the old 8 gig when I boot to it.
Also have 256mgs DDR ram, was 512mgs but kept getting out of memory errors, didn't know where to edit Vcache settings so I took out one stick for now. No more more memory errors.

This 1700xp is all brand new exect for the Sony CDRW and the 8gig maxtor drive.

As for the WIn 98 disk itself, I have several, I have used a backup copy to install everything. I'm pretty sure it is good though. A friend lost his real disk (his dog ate it, FOR REAL, well at least chewed it real good) anyway I made him a copy from my copy. It seems to work fine for him. I used my copy to install Win98se on the 333 after rebuilding it, it seemed to work fine up till it left here, gave the new owner an oem disk for the system.

I had a tray shut on a win98se disk and ruin it beyond repair, so I opened a new one and made a backup, I use that backup for everything. I play with systems often enough I wanted to make sure windows was legal and bought an oem multie pack, but I only use one! At over $100 per window disk, or 33 cents per copy, easy choice! The master disk is about 1 year old or so. I don't think there are any newer versions released since I bought these.

I don't seem to have any trouble with other peoples computers. I build a few for friends, fix them for people sometimes, just hobby stuff. Mine I have troubles with. Of course most people I know don't do much with thier systems, play a few small games, surf the net, some destop publishing and thats about it for them. I overload mine, animation, video capture, tons of stuff!

Thanks for any info

Thankyou for that link to the Kernell32.dll troubleshooting page.

I just looked at it and haven't had time to test anything yet, but it gives me alot of ideas what to look for now.

Might be several of those sugestions!
