Removal of Retail Athlon Heatsink

Post by JMan »

I need to ship a motherboard back for an RMA but I cannot for the life of me get the heatsink off the Thunderbird on it. The motherboard is an ECS K7S5A, if it matters. I've done this before, but for some reason it just won't budge this time. I've tried using all combinations of fingers and screwdrivers, applying leverage horizontally to the heatsink while pushing down on the notch, and whatever else I can think of but all I have to show for it is a bunch of worn down fingers and 2 bent screwdrivers.
Please help.
Thanks,

JMan

i used a popsicle stick between the heatsink and the clamp and twist it as i apply pressure on the clip from the top with a screwdriver

I tried a popsicle stick but that was too wide, so I then tried a nail scissor instead and that worked. Thanks so much for the idea :)
