ok, my friend has a file that cannot fit onto a floppy (3mb) he wants me to transfer his file from his computer to my computer and burn it for him since he doesn't have a burner. i thought i would be able to use my external zip drive to save his file on a zip disk and bring it over to mine but he doesn't have a usb port. also he doesn't have a internet connection so he cannot send it over the net to me. to make things worse, there isn't an ethernet card in his computer so i can't set up a network to send the file over ethernet. his computer is at my house right now and i am thinking of things to do.
since he has a modem, i was wondering if it is possible to network 2 computers together through a modem in each computer and a phone line? is that possible? i am running out of options here and i don't want to take his hard drive out of his computer and put it in mine. im praying that there is a modem method. any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

thankz

Don't know of a way to use the modem to network..

Have you tried using PK ZIP or another similar program to span it over three floppy diskettes?

You can also use this great utility called FastLynk: http://www.sewelld.com , but it might be easier to use WinZip since the file is only 3 megs in size.

One extra thought: test it first. I recently downloaded a utility called... Axman I think. It would let you set the size of each section of any size file or split it evenly into X number of files.. then reassemble them at the destination.
I was unable to get it to work proerly the first three tries, so gave up :(

You can also try a direct cable connection. The windows setup is pretty easy and it goes through the paralel or serial port.

Or use Winace and span the files onto multiple floppies.

Hey for your future info, Yes you can use the phoneline to network them, but you have to purchase a system like diamonds homefree network..it will work usb, pci, or wireless...they sell lots of them on ebay!
