The prevailing method for removing epoxied sinks from vid cars is to pop it in the freezer, let it get cold for fifteen minutes, protect the board with a credit card and pry the sink off with a screwdriver.
That usually involves sinks that are factory mounted, where there is a crappy little dab of epoxy in the center. If somebody bothered to use artic silver, they probably spread it over the whole chip.
You might try some cold spray from rat shack and get the heatsink real cold and see if that overstresses the epoxy and loosens it up.
Sounds like it might not be worth it to remove it.............

also depends on how it was mixed........a 50/50 mix will come loose........something stronger than that and i dont think it will budge.......without takeing your northbridge chip with it.......oops

did it a long time ago. think I did the normal 50/50.
as for removal. that is what I do with my radeon heatsinks and replace them that way. hope it works. Eh, if not it was only a kk266 anyways.

Heat and lots of it.

If it's only a kk266 it won't matter when you melt the board.
