battery acid

I'm doing 'spring' cleaning and ran into an old toy: the first Sony recordable mini-CD unit. )* Stupidly I failed to remove the last battery when it stopped buffering enough to let me jog with it. The AA battery had oozed out and covered about half of that cells area.
What chemical should I use to neutralize the traces still on the contacts?

Thanks

Paul

Good old baking soda. Just be carefull not to get it all over the place.

Baking soda mixed with a little water should do the trick then just make sure you get it dry.

No. Use plain water or water with a little vinegar. You're dealing with alkaline batteries, called so because the electrolyte (potassium hydroxide) is alkaline or basic, not an acid.

And don't get any on your skin.
