Having problems with a PC I just built, its randomly reseting, it started about a week after it was built, and was doing it 3-4 times per day, then stopped for two weeks and now has started happening again. This happens sometimes during boot up, sometimes whilst in windows, there seems to be no obvious reason...

Athlon 1.4Ghz 266 CPU
ASUS nForce A7N266 MOBO
256MB PC2100 DDR RAM
300w PSU
NetGear Network card
MS internet Pro keyboard

I've tried a new power cable, and that doesn't seem to work, its not overheating, cos the CPU rarely gets over 40 degrees C. I'm about to try a new PSU on Monday, if anyones got any ideas/ has a similar problem, please reply.

Ive had that happen to me on a couple of computers.
One of them: New RAM fixed it
Other: New PS fixed it

If you have the chance to try a different stick of ram...go for it

Similar to RubberDuckie. I built half a dozen 1.33 or 1.4 Athlons rebuilds here over the past half year. you should have 350 or 400 Watt power supplies.. Try RAM replacement, that helped on two of them.... and run a good PC monitoring app.... when I contacted ASUS the tech I spoke to agreed that PC Probe, which they bundle with their MB's, wasn't very good. He pointed me toward ... drat. I can't find it now . His point was watch/track the heat as well as the voltage... One one system the 5 volt circuit kept going over 5.32V, which triggered a default level alarm.

Another possible is my old favorite: a PCI IRQ channel sharing problem (this is NOT the same as an IRQ conflict, there are four PCI IRQ channels labelled A - D and all your PCI and AGP devices must share them)). This problem does not affect ISA cards.

This problem is very common with NICs, some PCI sound cards (the SBLive in particular is VERY prone to it) and SCSI controller cards. These cards do NOT like to share a PCI IRQ channel I explain the problem in detail here with a fix: http://soldcentralfl.com/quakecoop/glfaq5.htm#5_9
