God damn it!! Got my replacement AMD XP 1700+ yesterday after the first one wouldn't work correctly... Well i've narrowed it down to the motherboard

For some reason this Epox 8k7a will not run that XP... I've tried 3 different psu's and it will lock when trying to boot up and reboot randomly... Looks like a new mobo will be on my way to see i highly doubt i've got 2 bad chips in a row that have the same problem... The AXP's are pretty much the same chip and use less power than the birds so it should run with no problem... Unless i've got an older revision of this board that don't work with the XP's
Check out this thread at AMDMB It ain't the chip...

I tried my 1800+XP on an Iwill KK266R ( KT133A) and it ran like crap. While alot of the mobo mfgrs are saying the XPs run on the older chipsets, I think they're full of baloney

GRRR Oh and Alumina is a waste of money IMHO... I have the Orig. AS... Temps 98 idle with the Senfu and the loud ass fan that came with it... AFter i put my 1.33 back in i put alumina on it... Idle temp 104 now... Go figure...

Not that this will help anything, but is Alumina a waste of money just because your temp readouts are higher now than before? What's your testing method? Are all the reviews about Alumina vs AS1 wrong?

I know what i seen form your own opinions... It was applied jsut like the AS was.... Its nice to clean up but when i see a 6 degree temp jump i don't care for that too much...

hmm, thats odd. I have an 8K7A+ running an Athlon 1600+ fine with no problem. My friend is running an 8KHA+ with the same CPU, no problems. I wonder if there are older "revisions" as you said and you just got unlucky?

There's 3 revisions of the 8k7a that i've seen the 1.0 1.1 and 1.2.... The only boards noted as having hte problem are the 1.0's and 1.1's... Haven't seen anyone with a 1.2 that has the same problem with it... It would be nice if they'd get a newer bios out other than the 10/17 bios... Guys are getting the XP's to work with the 7/11 bios but that dont' have support for XP's and SSE isn't enabled with that bios... I ordered a XP333 last night and this thing is out the door...

I have been testing and still am testing alumina, as 2 and as 3 along with nanotherm and there's no way alumina is worse by at most 1-2 degrees than the others. Perhaps you got a bad tube. I have gone through 3-4 tubes so far along with 4 tubes of as 2 and still in one tube of as 3. On my first tube of nanotherm.
I like to be sure in my reviews so I'll re-apply compound sometimes 4-5 times to be sure of the results. So I go through a lot.
It does make a diff if too much or too little is applied, and I know you know that. Must be a bad batch I guess.
