PC wont' turn on

I have a brnad new Asus P4T-E and a new P4 2A GHz and new RAM and when I turn on the PC nothing happens. The first time I turned it on it worked fine. It went straight into the BIOS and I set everything in there. Then, when I rebooted, nothing happened. The power light comes on and I can turn num-lock on and off (but oddly not capslock), but I get no signal to the monitor. The hard drives spin up, but the cd burner's tray (new plextor) won't open. I unplugged everything except the CPU, vid card (Diamond Viper V770 Ultra in 4X mode), and RAM and it still wouldn't come on. I took out the RAM and the CPU and kept the internal speaker connected and I didn't get the beeps I was supposed to. I got no beeps at all. Here's my real question: can attaching a floppy drive fry a motherboard? I ask, because that's the only thing I did in between it working and not working. I jsut don't understand, cause it gets power and all the fans come on and everything seems like it should be working, but it just sits there. Please help. Thanks.

First off welcome to PCA this is a great palce. I would try clearing your cmos just because you said you set everything up in bios and on reboot it was a no go. Clearing the cmos should set everything back to default.

ditto what dad said, remember to unplug the power cord. also i have found that it is sometimes useful to disconnect the power source from the mobo and let it discharge before restarting. clearing the cmos will probably fix your problem - you may have hit a combination which won't let you post - i know on my ak31 board any overclock at all fails unles you turn down the memory from the default 1T to 2T
welcome and let us know if this worked for you!
if not we're full of ideas

The only hting in the BIOS I did was make sure the hd's were detected and to set the cpu speed (default, since i'm not overclocking yet). I also had already tried removing the CMOS battery and waited a minute or two, and that still didn't work. I got really really mad because the reason I got the new mobo and cpu was because my old PIII appeared to be fried. It actually did the same thing that my new one did, so you can imagine i was quite upset. I had finally given up and was ready to go home from work and I just threw everything in the case to store for the trip home (not caring at this point about damage because i was very upset), and i closed it up and stood it back up and decided that i would try one more time. I plugged the power and keyboard and it turned on! It has worked flawlessly ever since. Well, ever since I figured out how to get past the STOP error when win2k pro was loading (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE). Apparently 2k doesn't like it when you change the HDD controller without loading drivers ahead of time. Anyway, yes, it's fixed now, but I have no idea how. Maybe this means i can actually get the old P3 fixed too, which would be good. we shall see.
