soyo dragon mobo

Post by Shadow250 »

i was wondering, what is the difference between soyo dragon kt266 mb and soyo dragon plus
mb? i read the specs on both and they are exactly the same. so what can the plus edition do that the non-plus edition can't?

The + version uses the kt266A chipset which is the latest and fastest. The regular one just has the kt266 chipset.

The Dragon + has the newer and better performing KT266a chipset. The non + Dragon has the KT266 chipset. I just set up a Dragon+ and am very pleased so far. Board has lot of features and seems very stable.

Edit: LOL Blade you beat me to the punch

I heard only like 2 of the PCI slots are busmastered on those, due to all the o/b stuff they throw at ya. That true?

Not usre about that Vidman but it is not an issue for me as I don't have any PCI cards installed. I was prepared to install my SBLive and D-Link nic but the onboard stuff works so well I saw no need. Beleive it or not the onbard C-Media 6 channel sound chip seems to sound better than my SBLive did. I don't claim to be an audio guru but I do know that I am hearing things in games that I never heard before. The system looks so clean with the black mobo, red Gainward GeForce 3 TI200, shinny Senfu cooler, two sticks of ram and the drives nothing else in there.

hey vid...
unless you're one of the following, you won't need to use the PCI slots:

1 - hardcore audio guy and want audio better than Live! cards
2 - using 2 or more RAID setups (the onboard Promise "Lite" BIOS only allows for one set of 2 drive RAID)
3 - SCSI
4 - use PCI modem or in need of 2 NIC's

take a look at my review for a pic of how my PC looks now

I like to run High FSB tho and I wonder how the quality of the NIC is on the Dragon+. I know this Intel NIC of mine does like 169-170 FSB before it craps out. Crummy NICs can stop you cold when OCing the FSB. Sure looks like a nice mobo tho for peeps that want it all integrated.

i am running the non plus version and it runs very stable, i m running a crappy savage 4 pci vid card atm
im waiting for an agp 4x geforce 2 ti card. maybe you know a good benchmark prog, i have 3d mark 2001 and sisoft sandra it scores pretty low because of the pci card i think. also running PNY 2100
ddr ram, 6.2 gb fujitsu hdd. what is the drystone/whetstone of a typical amd t-bird 1.4ghz proc for a dragon plus not over clocked?

there are other factors to consider when it comes to your score..
what speed memory you are running...
what hdd you are using
