For gaming: stay with WinME
For everything else: no prob with Linux

Just go and try Linux when this is a secondary system, hardware is powerfull enough, Linux runs from a 386 up to the latest 64-bit servers.
It's a nice system to get in touch with Linux. I'm currently trying to install SuSE 7.3 on my secondary box to use it as DSL router/firewall and then some.
