Couple questions about video out...

Got a question about S-video. I have an s-video jack on my T.V. It is labled neither "in" nor "out" so I don't know which it is. I tried hooking it up to my computer (with the help of my AIW Radeon) via video in and I also tried video out and didn't get video either way I tried. So my question is, is the jack on my T.V. busted or am I missing something? The T.V. is rather old and to tell the truth, I didn't even think it had it. I just stumbled upon it while I was cleaning it before I put it in my entertainment center. I was rather happy to find it too :) It's an older, larger, better looking T.V. than what my parents have out in the family room and only cost $100 (neighbors were throwin' it away--just needed a power supply)

And my second question is, should I even find a fix, would it improve the video quality (specifically text) when outputting video from my computer to my T.V? I currently have it hooked up via a composite cable and am havin' a good 'ol time playin' some of the RTCW maps on a 27" T.V. :D But I'm having trouble reading the text and it would be nice to have it a tad clearer if I could (if S-video would even do that--I know a lot of it is dependant upon the T.V.)

Thanks :)

Yes, S-Video would give you MUCH clearer text - not as good as a CRT but better than composite.

That jack can only be an S-video in - there wouldn't be an out on a TV.

Depending on the brand, you may have to either switch to a different video input (some Tvs have more than one input - mine has 3 and #2 is the S-Video), or there may be a switch on the back of the TV that selects between the composite and S-video jacks.

You need to make sure that the computer is properly setup to send video via the S-video out as well. Some cards detect which output you're using and some don't. You may have to manually select the S-video out in the display properties.

intersting....oddly enough, CH91 is composite, so I went back to ch90 and it says "s-video" Bingo....

Thanks for givin' me those tips, if it weren't for them I wouldn't have thought about doin' this :) Now I just hope it works :)

Bingo--definitly clearer. I'll mess with my AIW's settings to see if I acn get it any better. Thanks again :)

DAMN! S-video rocks....wolfenstein seems so much more "cleaner" and clearer. I can read the text fine now. Almost feels like I'm playing a console game. I have to run the games on 800x600 because that is all the T.V. supports, but that means all my games will run a ton faster. I may start using my monitor only for internet browsing :D
