Couple questions about video out...

Got a question about S-video. I have an s-video jack on my T.V. It is labled neither "in" nor "out" so I don't know which it is. I tried hooking it up to my computer (with the help of my AIW Radeon) via video in and I also tried video out and didn't get video either way I tried. So my question is, is the jack on my T.V. busted or am I missing something? The T.V. is rather old and to tell the truth, I didn't even think it had it. I just stumbled upon it while I was cleaning it before I put it in my entertainment center. I was rather happy to find it too
It's an older, larger, better looking T.V. than what my parents have out in the family room and only cost $100 (neighbors were throwin' it away--just needed a power supply)
And my second question is, should I even find a fix, would it improve the video quality (specifically text) when outputting video from my computer to my T.V? I currently have it hooked up via a composite cable and am havin' a good 'ol time playin' some of the RTCW maps on a 27" T.V.
But I'm having trouble reading the text and it would be nice to have it a tad clearer if I could (if S-video would even do that--I know a lot of it is dependant upon the T.V.)
Thanks
