I went to my friends yesterday to install his burner and i couldnt get it to work for some reason
heres what i got:
Primary :
Top connector: Cd burner(slave)
middle connector:hdd(master)
Secondary(one connector): Cd rom(master)
i cant make the primary cd rom, and cd burner because the cable too short
but when i unhooked the burner from the primary connector,it open the tray(not before),but the hdd still didnt boot
but i tried going back to the original configuration which was:
primary:
Hdd on the top connector
secondary:
Cd rom
and it still didnt boot
all it does it stay on the IBM splash screen
EDIT: the secondary cable is a single connector
Help Me Fix My Friends Computer
Is it an old IDE cable with 40 wires or the newer ATA66/100 with 80 wires ?
The top connector on ATA66/100 cables is ALWAYS master and the middle connector ALWAYS slave. So change the master/slave settings on the drives or change the cable connectors.
This doesn't matter on the older IDE cables.
The newer ATA66/100 cables have colored connectors, most likely blue for mobo, grey for middle (slave) and black for top (master).
