Be sure the board is flashed with the latest bios and your using the latest Via drivers... Link for them should be on the main PCA page... think there 4.37's. and get the latest SB Live Drivers... I had that board and never had a lick of trouble with it... Still wish i was running that board... It ran my 1.33@1.6 10x160 with no problems at all :) can't get past 145 with this DDR setup i have now :(

singin' welcome to the darkside - from whoever sang that song, good song too

I've never had a Iwill mobo but many here have and I think all love them bigtime. With the live if you have several peripherals it might have to be moved around because it does not like sharing an irq. But that's with any mobo.

What cpu/heatsink ya got in it? :)

Nothing specific as concerns the SBLive except beware of PCI IRQ Channel problems. More info here: http://soldcentralfl.com/quakecoop/glfaq5.htm#5_9

hmmmm , maybe I wont bother with the SB Live . I use Microsoft DSS80 digital speakers . They sound awesome and don't even need a sound card . I have never even tried to use a sound card since I started using the DSS80's about a year and a half ago . I wonder how the onboard sound is (if needed) on that Iwill board .

I use a stand alone cmedia card now, the exact same one in the Iwill KK266 Plus and the Soyo Dragon Plus and it's better than the live. But the one in the kk266 isn't the same, mainly doesn't have 4 speaker support. But for what you have it'll probably be just fine since the dss80's are just 2 speakers and sub.

And I've learned cmedia updates drivers very regularly.

The C-Media sound is Ok. Actually its not too bad for onboard sound... U can hook up 4 speakers to it i believe... Its 4.1 surround sound... U use the line in connector if your running 4 speakers i believe... I remember seeing it on something when i had that board.

I have the KK266 and like it. As Pred stated the on board sound is 4.1. I didn't like it tho because it didn't seem to bring out the best of my Promedia 4.1's. I slapped a Xgamer and didn't have any big problems with it.

edit--I also wanted to tell you that if you use XP don't use a usb mouse. On mine if I hook up a usb mouse to the computer and shut down the puter goes into a crazy-assed restart loop. Hook it up to a hub and no problems. Go figure.

Shouldn't have any problems with Win2k... I think i was running Win2k server on my kk266 when i upgraded to the Epox 8k7a and a 1.33 bird. I know this Epox has never seen win98.

Phil, bookmark the link in my sig for the Iwill KK266-R FAQ. It has the answers to ALL your questions with regard to that mobo. If you have any questions at all about the KK266 drop me a PM. I have two systems based around those mobos and I love the things. :) Try the o/b sound. You may be surprised how good it is! My kidz are running an Iwill KK266R with the o/b sound and MS DSS80's and it works great.

Cheers, Todd
