should i buy a pentium 2 400mhz with motherboard or should i buy me a set of 1.1ghz pentium 3 processors. what is better upgrade

dual celeron bp6 mobo 300mhz for p2 dual 400mhz or dual 1.1ghz do we really need all the speed what the heck.

save money and just buy an atholon 1800. just as fast and cheaper.

since my first computer intel has been my choice since they run at lower heat level and have anti heat mechanisim install when it detects high temps it shutdown the computer automatically and plus the core does not break as easily as the amd do. Plus amd run to hot

fearfox - true, but still, you get better performance at a cheaper price. i used to be a huge intel fan, but know i love amd. rock solid stable.
also, i wouldn't recommend the bp6. i owned one for a year or so and had some problems with it. not a very stable board. so i wouldn't recommend it.

Hmmmm, my AMD T-bird doesn't run too hot, heat's never been an issue in 1 yr since built. I have 3 other Intel cpu'd PCs here too but there's nothing wrong with the AMD cpu whatsoever. I'll buy another one next time I think I need more cpu speed, so far not an issue. There's also no need to be "loyal" to a PC component IMHO. Whatever you can get the best performance or bang for your buck wins depending on one's point of view or need.

AMD's don't run that hot... Mine @ 1.6 1.95 v's ran 118 under a load. 110 at idle... at 1.33 it runs 94 idle 105 loaded. Get a lot more speed for a lot less going with AMD. I jumped to the dark side about 8 months ago and am glad i did... I was loyal to Intel but thought what the hell and wanted to see what all the hype was about... It was worth it... A system Setup like this for Intel would probably cost me 400 bucks more.

Still, those are sweet temps...Mine runs 111F idle, and I have an SK6, Volcano II fan, and 1.33Ghz AMD....Also, gigabyte motherboards have a different temperature sensor..They are in contact with the core or something, at least that's what I read at AMDMB...
