Hey what causes a computer to just start giving a CMOS Checksum Error on the post for no apparent reason. Its about 1-1 and 1/2 years old. And I'm pretty sure it gives a different message if the battery is dead. Any ideas?

Your welcome. I used to get that error a long long time ago and it had me stumped. A fresh battery cured it for me.

You get that message if the CMOS becomes corrupt which is USUALLY caused by a weak battery. It might have enough juice to barely hold it's own but the voltage may be dipping low enough sometimes to scramble the CMOS memory.
