Guys need help fast... Cable modem and NIC prob...

Ok i'm at my buddy's house he had @home... Which is still working.. His cable company Charter switched over to their own system... They gave them new software yada yada yada.... Well for some reason it won't work... I'm on the phone waiting for tech support which i probably won't get... The prob is the NIC won't renew the IP address... Their software sets everything to auto... OS is WinXP does anyone know a way to force the NIC to renew the IP so i can get the new cable service to work... Been fvckin' around with this for an hr now and been on hold the phone damn time and its beginning ot piss me off... Why can't they just give us the DNS and IP and let us have at it... Oh hell no that owuld be too damn easy... Sitting on the phone with tech support is a hell of a lot more fun and a lot more time consuming.... I'm on @home right now just popped in the info and it still worked.... If anyone can give me any idea's it would be appreciated...

I definately wouldn't install their software as it probably won't work with XP - I know Comcast@Home's software doesn't.
You use the same command as in NT and Win2K to renew DHCP leases. Open a DOS command line windows and type:
IPCONFIG
to see the settings for all your network connections. Type:
IPCONFIG /RELEASE
to release all DHCP leases. Then type:
IPCONFIG /RENEW
to force Windows to renew all DCHP leases.
This is the equivalent of running WINIPCFG in Win9x.

Based on my expereince with Road Runner cable there is probably a reset button on back of the cable modem that needs to be reset with a paper clip or toothpic or something like that. If FP suggestions don't work try reseting the modem.

Thanks guys gonna go try those now.... Still on the phone wish they hadn't installed this software but oh well isn't my computer... I was just called to come fix it

Well it was a no go... They have DCHP problems so fvckem is what i say... I'll have them call tech support tomorrow and see if they can get it figured out... I'm headin' home...
