I just installed windows xp and now when I play q2 my mouse feels all "sloppy." It's almost like driving with a steering wheel with too much slack in it. I've d/l'ed the xp drivers from logitech and I've got the acceleration on the mouse shut off but I'm still having problems.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a download somewhere to fix it? I would hate to uninstall win xp just to fix my quake problems but let's face it... it really is about quake

thanks

das da fact! :)

Do you ever play anything else besides Quake 2 though? :P

Have xp but haven't tried quate 2 yet, I will later and now I'm curious. NFS5 runs fine though. Red Faction does too but that's boring.

Must be related to your mouse. I've played Q2 on my XP machine w/o mouse problems but that's with a Microsoft wheel mouse (not optical). I still have to try to fix my Q1 games in XP however as something got screwed up with the video, only in Q1 games too :( .

If available, try another mouse.

I and many others have definately found that the mouse feels very wierd in FPS games in XP. "Sloppy" is a good term. I've only played HL so far but it definately feels strange.

Playable, and you can get used to it, but it would be nice to know why and if there's a way to disable it. I'm assuming XP uses some kind of mouse acceleration.

Try disabling the High Precision checkbox in the mouse sensitivity settings in Control Panel. That seems to help.

I am using an Intelieye Explorer in XP with no problems at all in any of the games I play UT. CS, Quake3 but just a thought maybe you should try the game in compatibility mode. Worth a shot anyway

By default XP uses a "High Precision" mode for the mouse. This is like smart acceleration - it slows the mouse when your pointer comes near clickable hotspots on the screen. I suspect this is the problem. When I disabled it I noticed HL played mush smoother.

In generall it's NOT a good idea to have any kind of mouse acceleration enabled if you play games.

I've tried every fix that I have found on the web related to this problem and nothing has worked. I have found out that many people are experiencing the same problems that I am and that both Micro$oft and Logitech are currently working on a fix for the problem. I think I'll just unistall xp for the time being and wait for the fix... quake is just too important :)

I have a Logitech Mouseman+ and have noticed the same thing. Hopefully they will fix it in the next driver update.

does anyone know if Micro$oft has come up with a fix to the rodent problem yet?
