high system requirement to run cs?

Hi,
Im really confused...im trying to get my 2nd system to run cs good so i upgraded to Celeron 525mhz, Geforce 256 DDR, and Abit BE6 board.
I thought with this kinda power i should be able to run it good right? WRONG, it even stutters at 640x480!! on online servers wit about 20 ppo. I plugged in my 1ghz P3 from my main rig and things got alot better but its still not as good as my Radeon that im using for now. I had a p3 800 and Voodoo3 and it ran cs GREAT, same if not lil slower than my radeon at 1024x768 so i thought an Geforce256 DDR should be overkill for cs. is my cpu too slow for the Geforce?? this system also packed wit 192 sdram.

Thanks

something else is wrong there. My wife's computer is a p3 600@800mhz w/ Geforce 1 32mb SDRAM and it runs CS at 1024x768 perfect?

Using the latest drivers? checked the AGP settings and things like that?

did u try clean installing your system? did u overclock anything? if u did, set them in their default clockspeeds and see if it runs better

something definitely wrong... i've played CS on a c300a@450 w/ only an ATI Rage card (16meg?) & 128mb RAM. it wasn't great, but it was playable.

Yeah something is definitly wrong with that setup. I had a celeron300@458, 384MB SDRAM, and a voodo3 3500 and it would run REALLY well at 1024x768. How do you have a celeron at 525? is it overclocked? if so that could be your problem. one of your cards might not be handling the weird PCI bus frequency that overclocking can cause.

Yeah i would say something is wrong. I use to play counter strike on a Celeron 300a@450 with a Monster Fusion @ 1024x768 and it ran fine.

I wouldn't think CS would be anymore demanding than just Halflife itself. I remember running HL on one of those cacheless 266's @400 with 64m ram, and a voodoo2, only getting occasional stutters, but very playable.
My nephew used that setup for over a year and a half and had little complaint, even playing online.
I agree with the others, somethings not right.
Did you have other video cards in that system ? Maybe some older drivers left behind causing problems ? Using Opengl ?

Just for the heck of it, I fired up halflife and switched from opengl to direct3d to see if there was any difference, and man, it was lag city ! My machine is more than healthy enough for that, but I couldn't believe how slow and laggy things were running direct3d.

What kind of a connection are you on? Stuttering online play is usually a side effect of using an incorrect rate setting. If you are on dial-up you will probably get a certian amount of "latency chop" no matter what you tweak, but an unbareable amount isnt normal.
