If you have a 750 chipset mobo I wouldn't recomend it. I couldn't get my ide or agp driver to install correctly. In fact I wouldn't reccomend it no-matter what kind of mobo you have. I think the only thing that is better about it is that you can view pics as thumbnails. Besides that I think it sux.

ME=Booo
Some people have stability problems with it, upgrading can be a problem. It's hardly an improvement over Windows 98. Windows 2000, on the other hand...

I wouldn't even recommend taking a look @ it, much less install it.

My bro has it and god has he had problems with it...very buggy to say the least.

I have an athlon and used to run that OS. Only thing I like about it was already mentioned by Frost; you can view pictures as thumbnails. That was the best feature. Something else nice about it was that you can come back from standby. I till haven't been able to do that with Win98SE on my system.

I used to say it was more stable because my computer would never lock and my friend (running Win98SE) always did. I never thought anything of it, really. Now that I'm running Win98SE, it's just as stable as it was before--so it must be his system causing all the problems; not the OS.

If it were me, I wouldn't bother. It's not worth the work. It doesn't (from my experience) seem any more stable, it's slower when it comes to gaming, and offers nothing more than that. If you want to be an optimist, you can say it comes with some new software to edit videos, comes with MediaPlayer 7, etc. But to me, Mediaplayer 7 sucks, and the video editing software that had wasn't that impressive. My All-in-Wonder Radeon software blows it away ;)

Basically, don't bother.

i have 3 systems running ME and it's been perfectly stable. everyone else seems to complain about it, but it's been good to me! the reason i use it over 98se is because 98se would constantly crash on me (ipf's and .dll errors in explorer, etc). winME made all that go away.

can't hurt to try it if you can get a good "deal" on it. :)

I could not reformat and one i had to trash it ! and the other two were a bear -to f-disk .I gave that drives to my brother inlaw for his mac :) i will never load that again - it may or may not of cost me a ton of :( cash !

i have it running on 4 systems 1 bx, 1 810 kt7 raid, tyan ss7 with no probs - plus is a much better disk defrag,better recovery from new hardware foul up - minus more disk space maybe a little slower home network wizard not very useful - a clean install does seem to work better, but i installed it on the ss7 w/o a clean install

If you are using the first edition of win98 or even win95 then I would say go ahead and use winME. In terms of how it compares to win98se then there isn't that much more to it. About the only benefits that it has over win98se is faster boot times and better system tools. The rest is forgettable to me. I had a hell of a time trying to get an MX300 soundcard to work with it and I got so frustrated with it that I just went back to win98 so there are some issues with it still. BTW if anyone has gotten their MX300 to work in WinMe tell me how the heck you did it. I already tried using the 2048 drivers and nothing.

WinMe is great for a newbie or someone that likes to tweak! They can screw it up and use the restore feature. :)

Stall6g, which motherboard are you using? I have a Aureal SQ2500 and it works. I had to change a few settings in the inf because of the 815 chip set.

this weekend we had systems runnin win 2k, win me, and win 98se.. overall i'd say the 2k systems were snappier, but between the 98se and ME systems... no real diff..
