OK, I got an Abit KT7_Raid from a trade with another PCA member, and when I press the power button on the case, I get this on the screen:

BootBlock Bios v1.0

BIOS ROM failure

Please insert system disk....

Bootblock is what they put on newer mobos for bad flashes. What i would try s resetting the CMOS. If that doesnt work, then U need to download the BIOS from Abit's website and put it on the floppy. I think that will be able to re-flash.

I'll try to keep this general, but the boot block is a portion of the bios that does not get overwritten during a flash. It is there for recovery purposes in case you have a bad flash.

I've never tried it myself and my knowledge of it is kinda basic.

When a flash goes bad, you might not have any video whatsoever, so what you must do is get an old ISA video card so you can see whats going on, plus an I/O card to connect your floppy drive to.

I think there is something to do with a bad flash not allowing you to use your floppy to re-flash under certain circumstances, and the boot block can (i think) only read from a floppy connected to an I/O card.

As far as the message you're seeing, I have no clue.

If I can ever find the web page on boot block, I'll post back.

I have the ability to use my floppy, but the only disk it reads is the Windows Millenium startup disk. This really doesn't do any good, 'cause the startup disk looks for drives and startup info that the Bios holds. Oh well....I'm still hard at work..... :D

My main intention was to be informative as to what "boot block" is, but frankly, I'd try exactly what CaterpillarAssasin suggested.
:)

If you've never done a flash, be sure to read the instructions carefully. ::

Good luck!

the board worked perfectly for me when i had it. i have offered to do whatever chris thinks needs to be done. if you want me to rma it for ya i will chris. box it up and send it to me. i'll reimburse you for the shipping charges. if it doesnt work, it doesnt work. things happen. you wanted a working motherboard and i want you to have that. as far as i'm concerned our deal is not complete until you are satisfied, and quite frankly, if i were in your shoes i would not be satisfied. box the damn thing i send it to me and i'll get you another one. i've never had to rma anything so if someone would instruct me on the finer points of getting done in a timely manner i would appreciate it.

Kevin, here's the info from Abit Bro,
Contact your reseller Sometimes despite all our efforts you still need help. Perhaps you need to replace your board under warranty. When this happens, you need to talk to the company that sold you the board in the first place. ABIT does not sell boards itself so it cannot help you here.

Service and Technical Support: Please consult the customer service page for the appropriate steps to take. If you have exhausted the resources of this website, email or technical staff for direct technical assistance.

The following is our list of branch offices and the countries they are responsible for. When contacting our headquarters please note we are located in Taiwan and we are 8+ GMT time. More importantly we have holidays that may be different from those in your country.

Just RMA it back to Abit. I think all mobo's come with a 1 year warranty. Abit's USUAL policy is to charge $25 for an RMA(thats one of the reasons I don't buy abit)...but there is a form out there to do it for free. I pretty sure Greg(nexus_7) has a copy of it on his computer.
