I manage my wife's Nano for her and I gave up on iTunes a year ago in frustration

It's possible that it works better on a Touch then? I've had mine for almost a year now and can't imagine a better music system. Don't miss CDs either.

I don't like the iTunes interface. It's a love it or hate it thing. Nor do I like how many silly background processes and extra crapware iTunes requires to run: Bonjour Service, Quicktime (it'll be a cold day in hell before I install Quicktime in a PC again), about 3 services for iPod handler and some background apps.

I don't like iTunes simply because I don't see a need myself. Of course, I don't care enough to create a playlist. I just drag what I want into a folder & call it playable.

There's no need to. One either plays your albums or selects songs/shuffle and it then plays everything like a jukebox.

Well, if that's the case, why might you buy a Touch then? With the Touch, there are no other options.

As for Bonjour Service, never seen that name used and as for Quicktime, you can easily ignore that too. Sure, it DLs but to me, it's just not an issue or problem.

Googled Bonjour Service, apparently only used by iTunes for searching shared music, a feature that's switchable and not used by me.

Thus, I might as well skip installing an extra application on my computer & just drag & drop the files I want.

Maybe OK if you just have a few MP3s but I've got over 55gbs of music now (close to 1000 cds). iTunes does a great job of filing everything and it couldn't be easier to use.

Actually, I have 160gb of MP3s myself. It's not that hard to organize. Heck, the program I use automatically puts the stuff into a named folder (by the album) & I just drag it into the artist's folder (Once I took the bit of time to make categories, theres not any work involved). In fact, from what I have experienced, my way is easier & more organized (and isn't just a massive folder of MP3s).

It's nice that I can just right click on a folder & just hit play all too (with my super old, pre-AOL version of Winamp). But to each their own.

Yeah I'm old school too. Everything is organized by genre and group in folders. My first MP3 players didn't use ID3 tags, just the filenames (I actually miss that).

I don't organize anything with the Zune Desktop. I do make playlists in Winamp and save them and Zune Desktop can load them. So whenever I want to play a playlist (be in in my Zune, my media center PCs or on my desktop PC) I just select a playlist.

Okay, I have a paper to write tonight and then (again) I will hopefully give a fill-in on how awesome this device is and the crazy amounts of things that are out there that you can have it do, that is other than the awesome things it does straight out of the box.

To each his own but iTunes automatically puts everything alphabetically, which is how my cd collection is, albums always were since day 1. I don't have a problem with that and I know what genre or type of music each is.

I can't stand scrolling. I think that's why I don't like the folder of MP3s. Though genera is a big deal to me too. Sometimes I want a certain genre, but I'm not sure which artist till I open the folder.

Ohh and my two cents on a media library/organization program, of course other than Itunes as some *cough* *cough* of us do not like it, is either Songbird or MM (the monkey program, although I don't like it very much myself). Songbird is where I am when in use for a librarian for my media!

When alphabetical and you know the artists name, it's as simple as going to that name by letter, bam, you're there. iTunes also DLs album art so with a Touch or iPhone, the albums look like the front of your CDs, not just an icon for an MP3 file. Sure, it doesn't get the artwork for all of my CDs and sometimes even gets incorrect artwork for a particular CD but most of them are there.
With genres, you have to sometimes think what type music a particular artist or group is classified in and sometimes that's a fine line. The line between rock and electric blues (newer blues) is a very fine line (for example) and I have alot of that.

Another cool feature recently added to the Touch/phone is that when listening to music, if you want to skip something all you need to do is shake it. Comes in handy when driving and you can't take your eyes off the road
