I have never had an issue with symantec corp stuff. I have never used anything labeled "norton" though. I have 10.2 in my shares if anyone is interested. They dont expire and will install on anything with 2000 or better. Why mess round with AVG if you have access to CORP symantec?

I have a copy of Norton System Works 2003. I have used it forever or at least parts of it some I never use and I have never had issues with it. One time many years ago I got into a debate over Norton being a recourse hog. I honestly did not know for sure so I ran some bench marks. I forget the exact details now as this was years ago but I know I ran 3Dmark and a few other bench marks. I actually got higher scores with NAV running in the back ground than when it was disabled. I can not explain how or why nor can I comment on any of the newer version of Norton but I have been happy with System Works 2003

3DMark tests 3D video performance.
You want to see what Norton does? Run a spyware scan with your favorite spyware app (Spy Sweeper, MS-AS, doesn't matter). Notice the speed it's scanning at.
Now while the scan is in progress, disable Norton Anti-Virus.
You notice a dramatic increase in speed of the spyware scan. Enable Norton again and see what happens.

I realize that but I did several tests at the time CPU mark and ...well like I said it has been a while I really dont remember exactly.
I'll take your word that NAV will slow down something like Spyware Sweeper, my question is wouldn't any anit virus do the same? Does Norton really kill performance that much when doing things like playing games, using PhotoShop etc?

Sure, any AV app slows down drive access to some extent, but NAV slows it down a LOT more than AVG or AntiVir or McAfee Corp.
As a rule, when I do Spyware scans I always disable the AV app because it's faster and because the spyware scanner will trigger AV alerts when it finds a trojan.
I always disable the AV app after starting the scan so I can see how big an effect it has. It's pretty dramatic when you disable Norton compared to most others.
Picture that happening when you're loading dozens of texture maps in a game you're playing when a level loads.

I was using Kaspersky for a few months, and I did not like it as it really slowed down everything. It seemed like all IO's ran through it first. Anything you did required it going through Kaspersky first.Originally posted by blade
Kaspersky. It found virus's that AVG and norton missed. Never failed me yet and even finds a virus in mailwasher and disenfects it. If downloading something and a virus is in it, kaspersky finds it and warns me.
