I read that and sat here for a sec and said huh? Then I realized what kind of noise my drive was making (I guess I tune it out now), I know what you mean now.

I'm not sure what generation my drive is but it is probably a first gen X-15 and it's kinda noisy. It has served me well though and has followed me through a few different boxes.

yeah, I've had 9 and 18 gig versions of the 10k, and a few different IBM Ultrastars as well. The IBMs whine louder, but the Quantums were ungodly loud when seeking.
