Hmm, not sure I can spare the dough for dual CPU, nice thought though.
I appreciate all the good recommendations guys. Keep 'em coming.
I'm doing some research on these boards and probably pick one sometime next week.
Right now the Soyo Dragon Lite looks like the contender, but I'm going to scour the news groups and web for reviews and comments.

I'm starting to WAFFLE! The Iwill XP333 is looking attractive - some darn nice reviews on it.
I see some grumbles about early performance and early problems with ATA133 support. Any one know if this has been addressed?
I'm also sold on the Cmedia chip that the Iwill XP333 and the Soyo Dragon Lite use. Nice audio. I don't like the AC97 chip that comes with the Eopx 8K3A, and I would dearly like to lose the SBLive.
Thanks for the link Dad - I'll check it out.

Seem to be an aweful lot of hapy XP333 users on that board

One thing to note FP if you go to the forums at amdmb.com you'll see nothing but problems will all the boards there... Its just a place to go for help if your having problems. The XP333 had 3 revisions. The 1.0 the 2.0 and the 2.1... You want the 2.1. Its stable as a rock and all the quircks have been worked out. It is a very nice board. Just ask Vid he swears by them. I wish i still had the XP333 in my comp rather than this 8K3A+... But i'm too lazy to format 2 computers and listen to the girlfriend bitch... lol

I realize that Pred, but I also meant that remark literally not sarcastically. There are a LOT of happy XP333 owners posting positive threads. Another vote for IWill.
Just fired off an email to NewEgg to confirm the revision number.
Anyone order one from them recently and know what revision they're selling?
Thx....

You won't get an answer from newegg on that. Everythign since march has been the 2.1 version so you don't have anything to worry about
When i first ordered mine in feb of this year there were still 1s and 2s out there i emailed newegg to confirm they had the 2.1 got a response back saying their warehouse is too big to go look at the revision number. I thought that was chicken shit but ordered it anyways and it was the 2.1. I'm seriously thinking about ordering another one and ditching this 8k3a+ was just gonna keep it as is but its via and i loved having the 4 XP system... lol XP333 Athlon XP GTXP and WinXP

I'd recommend the Iwill XP333-R board also. I bought one in late Feb from newegg and it was 2.1 revision. The board is stable, preformance is good, but not at the VIA level but it is way more stable. The Shuttle AK35GTR is a decent board and now I'm starting to like mine now, even though I had initial problems (I think it was mem related, not board). The CMedia sound is rather nice, I used it till a small problem arose with computer freezing in games with wireless NIC in the comp. The AMD MPX chipset looks attractive too and it has support for dual processors. You can start off with just one then if your feeling a crunch for power, drop another in (yeah it isn't that easy but still
). Also, from what I hear the nforce boards are awesome.

I'm planning on buying a retail CPU so I'm not really interested in recommendations on a HSF assembly unless you can recommend something that's dramatically quieter than the retail one without sacrificing cooling.
Although quieter than most aftermarket high performance fans, the retail fan is not very stealthy either. I run a Papst 8412NGL 20CFM fan on my Alpha 8045 and the noise level of the retail fan was just slightly better.

I have the Asus A7v333+Raid and it is beautiful. When my soyo dragon died, i had to buy this, and it boosted my 3dMark and pcmark points a bit. (no other changes to hardware.) It has been great and i think you should go with it. although the xp333 is really nice as well...

amd recommendations
Well i agree with whoever said nforce but i would wait for nforce 2
and maybe stay away from all the via ali stuff and go to the amd chipsets
I took this advice from evil bastard from amdmb forums he works in a 3d rendering shop or something and he was saying they went to gigabyte amd based boards and absolute rock solid
Ive tried 3 now and they are a touch slower than kt266a but stuff all only benchmarks would show you
Maybe wait for nforce2 which will support bartonn
Cheers
