Electronics knowledge needed

I have a capacitor that is 1000uf x 10v , can I use one that has a highr voltage rating ? (little can type capacitor with both leads on one end)

the 10v is just the max voltage for the Cap... Main thing to be sure is the same is the 1000 microfarads. So a cap rated for a higher voltage should work just fine... I went through all this stuff about 6 years ago in tech school i'm about 90% sure i'm right but there' still that 10% i'm not sure... Wish all my books weren't in storage right now or i'd look it up for ya.

Got it , I found a 1000uf x 16v at Radio shack. I hope it cures this Abit VA6.

I know that you are mechanically adept, so I hope you wont be offended by a gentle reminder to get the polarity right when you make the switch. The negative side of the cap should be marked with the - symbol.

got it on and the fatal exception is still happening.
