Don't know if 14 3d marks ala 3d mark 2001 is significant, but initial test post- 8.1 install is 14 higher than 8.0. I don't believe 14 marks is noticable-i read that a 100 mark difference is not noticable by us mere humans :) Did you see any diference in 3d mark 2001?

Haha, no doubt, blade...it was a long download as i am broadband challenged...it would be nice if Microsoft would offer a 8.1 update that would just add the new/changed files vs. the whole ball of wax---assuming it would be like 5 megs or so...I wish i could say it is worth it, but as nexus said "big deal" :) wait till it's offered on a game cd and save the time you would spend on downloading for playing a cool game :p

I downloaded a 134mb demo in 13 minutes. And it had to hop all the way from Indiana, too. :D Gotta love cable more...

So? You probably got it off a faster server. :P I was only able to transfer 37 kb/sec But, the speed of our DSL is 640 kbs down stream. :)

Always depends though.

Perhaps. But that's why I chose a server 1500 miles away, just to make it a little more fair. I was getting no less than 155 kb/sec, maxed at 162...and on a Saturday afternoon, too. And I tweaked my registry months ago (of course), otherwise I'd be downloading at less than half the speed.

OK, so I was bragging a bit... :D Just playing with ya. I actually considered DSL three years ago, but cable was available in my neighborhood first, and I jumped...darn glad, too. If cable wasn't here, I'd be peachy-keen with DSL...

I dont play any FPS games, but my Diablo II LOD visuals quality increased a noticable difference.

I didn't notice any difference in DX 8.1 at all.
Fear me, for I am elite.
