Anyone know where to download full versions of ie and netscape?

Post by blade »

Now even netscape has that lame small setup file so you cannot download the full version. Anyone know where to get the full versions of the newest browsers? When installing on multiple systems it makes it so much easier having the full version.

I think(with IE anyway) that when you are in the installer for IE and you hit the advanced button that you can choose to just download the browser but not install it. Look for something to that effect, I haven't done that in a while. Hope this helps.

I concur...

A similar option is available with the netscape installer.

Blade, do you currently have IE 5.5 installed ?

If so, and you're running '98, look at the "windows update setup files" folder just below your windows folder.

It contains all of the cab's, ect... for IE 5.5 that you had installed. You could burn it to a disk and install it over and over.

I'm not sure about IE 6 though, since I haven't jumped to that version.
Also don't know about netscape, since I haven't upgraded it, since version 4.73. I only use it for email.

Hope thats what you need ! :D

But what if you don't want to install it? You only want to download it and copy it to a CD? Anyone know the procedure?

Executioner,
You'd have to do exactly what Kakarot suggested.
Just point it to a folder you want to save it to, then burn it.

Just to clarify for others, what I had originally suggested, was from the point of view of, if you already
had downloaded it, but didn't want to go through all that again.

Good luck dude!

OK, I got it to download which was great, but I had a problem with my company's pc, but before I get to that, you start the downloader and select "Install Minimal or Customize your Browser". When you see the advance button, click on that and select download only.

Now what happend here at work, is once I started the downloader, it said I need to reboot to install some files. So I rebooted, but now my company's IE browser does not work anymore. It comes up but if you click on links, nothing happens. I re-installed the version they had, and it still does not work. After trying to fix it, it was discovered that the downloader over-wrote 2 files: urlmon.dll and wininet.dll. Once I got these files re-installed from a different company pc, IE now works again. Fcking MS! I don't know why they have to make this downloading of their software so difficult. It should be like most other sites: you find the file, click on it to download.

Man, that stinks!
I clicked on "install minimal/customize" chose the advanced option as well and only checked to download only.
I had just downloaded it myself on my win98 machine, and it never once told me to reboot to install anything.
I did that before posting just to make sure.

Why oh why can't they make it a single executable like netscape was, and allow you to choose options during the install. :;

I don't know about Nutscrape 6.x (AOHell version) but I do know that you can download the latest Mozilla built as one single file from this location .

IE setup won't offer the advanced feature for us Win2000 users, where you can select DOWNLOAD ONLY.
There is a solution, just lookie here , all yer have to do is to rename the "ie5xxx" parts to "ie6xxx" for IE6, it worked fine for me.

Tried with nutscrape and I think it worked. But it isn't just one simple file. It is 19 total but I guess that is it, I'll know later for sure.

With ie it does not give any advanced options when using any setup file, notta, zip, do dah day. It's either update their way or the highway. That is so lame.

VonJames, I do use 98 and have 5.5 currently and will try that an see if it works. thanks :) Waiting till my tbird gets here then I might format and try win2k out, if it supports all my peripherals. But I did want to get both full versions downloaded for me and for some others too.

Doc, your way does that give the full ie6? I'll try that overnight and see. thanks :)

I don't use nutsucks, ummmm . . . I mean Netscape. Here is how to get IE6 without installing. (I stole this from another board.

Follow these simple steps.

1. Download ie6setup.exe from Microsoft http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... 6setup.exe
2. Save the File to your root c:\
3. Click start, run and input this exactly as it shows:

C:\ie6setup.exe /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

It's just what I posted above from the MS knowledg article Q257249 .
To perform a download-only installation from the Internet:

1. On the following Internet Explorer download page, click the appropriate language version to download the Ie5setup.exe file:

2. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/dow ... 1.htmClick Save to Disk, and then save the file in a folder on your computer.

3. Click Start, and then click Run.

4. Click Browse, browse to the folder in which you saved the Ie5setup.exe file, click the file, and then click Open.

5. In the Open box, click at the end of the command, and then type:

/c:"ie5wzd.exe /d /s:""#E""" For example, if you saved the Ie5setup.exe file in the C:\Windows Update Setup Files folder, the command looks like:
6. "C:\Windows Update Setup Files\ie5setup.exe" /c:"ie5wzd.exe /d /s:""#E" Press ENTER. Choose the appropriate items for the operating system.
So, as I said above, follow my URL and just replace the "ie5xxx" parts with "ie6xxx".
