What the heck is this junk...

Post by sheerdark »

Does my computer have a mind of its own or what? I keep getting the following error every time I try to change my folder options to display all files. When I click on the options button...it throws this up. Can anyone help me as to what the heck it is? I am the only one that uses this machine...and it is mine...so I figure I am the administrator....but I did not set these "restrictions" Has anyone else ever seen this screen....it also does it when I try to change my internet properties.

Oh yeah, and my system specs are located in my member profile....

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you are running Windows 2000, I would say you are not logged in as the Administrator.

It sounds like he's not logged in as the admin on 2k or NT to me. I made a user name for my girlfriend on my computer and set it up so about the only thing she could do was sign online and browse the net. And i tried doing something on it one day and remember that error popping up.

Hey, sorry that I did not mention this before...but I am in Windows 98 when I get this error. I do have Win 2000 Advanced Server on my machine, but have no problems with it.

Sounds like mom installed some software while you were at school to keep you away from "those" websites...

Nope, mom has no access to my PC. I have a few that she can touch...but I lock this one up when I am away, so that she can not get in. I am 20 years old, so if I wanna go to those sites, I can ;) but don't. She has her own computer in her bedroom hooked up to the network. I am worried that this program was put on before I enabled my firewall....could this be a possibility. Norton has not caught a virus or anything....so I don't think it is that....and I know I didn't put any restrictions on my own computer...please help!!

poledit

Click Start, click Run, type "poledit" (without quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click OK.

In System Policy Editor, click Open Registry on the File menu.

Double-click the Local User branch to expand it, and then double-click the Windows 98 System branch to expand it.

Double-click Shell, and then double-click Restrictions.

Somewhere is there you can find the answer.

Thank you soooo much...never thought to check the registry....it had a value...browser options...and it was set to none.....so now it is fixed. I can't even start to think what caused that value to change, but as long as I can fix it, then I am ok....Thanks again!!
