GPS for the wife - which one?

The one she has is going south quickly. Quick looking around the web seems to be that Garmin is best regarded.

Our criteria:

Big enough to see with older eyes.

Not cellphone dependent. We have lots of dead spots around here and only have a limited data plan anyway.

Reliable.

I have an old cheap one somewhere in my car

. I could never use it b/c my eyes and my hearing.

Garmin again here. I also think that most Garmin's now come with free map updates. I've had mine for several years with zero issues.

I've had an older Garmin nüvi for like 7 yrs and it's still going strong. I've had to send it in for some TLC once but that's it.

Put me down for Garmin as well. I've seen & tried the others & the experience just isn't as good. FYI, I still have my original from about 10 years ago & it's working fine (battery doesn't hold charge, but I never use the battery).

I'm on my second Garmin hands down the best . been thinking of getting a spare now that we (wife and I). both have cars here in florida now. to be truthful we are not the best. at the tampa area getting from point A to B. the 2 best and ok is a Tom Tom. but the one I got my daughter years ago didn't compare to the Garmin. in feel or direction while in use . seem like a generic Garmin if that make sense. now my brother in -law bought a magellian last Christmas and took it back after just one day . he didn't like the mapping program at all or feel of the command functions.

ordered the 6" Garmin. We'll see how it goes. Her old one was a Magellan circa 2009.

you love it /she love it I'm sure . I remember years ago using the Micosoft street and trips .where you load the program up on your laptop .then hook up a usb dingle cube to your laptop and hang it over the rear of your rearview mirror. if you missed a turn you have to pull over and reconfig . the program to start where your at to were you wanted to go. it worked good except for the fact. it didn't tell you what lane to be in. to make some turns on a freeway or like in some citys .when you were looking for a place (store ) it might be a service drive . not really a street that ran along side a freeway. or if lets say you needed 31A exit but there was also a 31B and 31C exits to and how close you were to the turn you need to go on .so your watching the laptop as your driving down the road .not really the safest tracking .not like today were the units are small detailed and sit on your dash boards .not the sitting next to you or on the floor of the car and your trying to look and drive to. as bad or worst then texting and driving ~

LOL, I traveled Maui, England, & France with Microsoft Streets & Trips. I was the map master.

I remember the MS program...very cool but a bit of a challenge to use.

I loved Streets and Trips (and yeah I had the GPS dongle). Before Google Maps, that was the bomb. I planned a lot of road trips that way.
