The switch on the back is the response time in milliseconds. A modern mobo should be able to handle 1ms. If you notice that sometimes a key doesn't register when typing, increase the setting. This isn't well documented.
My gaming system handles 1ms just fine, but my workstation prefers 4ms because it's a 5 year old mobo.

I switched to mechanical several years ago. I have a das keyboard. I love it, the rest of the family, well, just had to get used to how loud it is.
I've had keyboards with LEDs before, but I had a bad experience with the quality of the keys and how they'd fade over time. If they go on sale I might replace mine as the new one (http://www.daskeyboard.com/daskeyboard-4-professional/) has a built in volume knob and USB 3.0.

If you have a Cherry-MX keyboard, and want to deaden the key click noise (maybe your spouse is going nuts) then these o-rings are supposed to work well:

The click you hear is NOT the switch, it's actually the keycap bottoming out. The switch engages before it bottoms out, and people can teach themselves not to type so hard to avoid bottoming out.
However I'm an old school two-finger typer from mechanical typewriter days, and I like to bash the keys.
For the sake of my wife's sanity, and to keep my game-mates from hearing too much key noice on comms in Teamspeak, I'm going to order these and try them out. Going to order the red ones which are thinner. The blue ones are a LOT of dampening - some people say too much.

That's not true. The switch clicks. Bottoming out has a completely different sound which is even louder, but the switch itself does have it's own click. I only bottom out specific keys (usually the larger ones like space, backspace, enter).FlyingPenguin wrote:If you have a Cherry-MX keyboard, and want to deaden the key click noise (maybe your spouse is going nuts) then these o-rings are supposed to work well:

Yeah, but my point is a lot of the noise is the bottom out. If I type carefully, I can be pretty quiet. Click is not so bad. Just too much work to type that way. I like to mash the keys.

Ordered the clear Rosewill ones from NewEgg. Wound up having to use 2 o-rings on all the keys (except the space key which didn't like them doubled up) to get enough cushion.
They do work. Let's see how they hold up over time.
Tedious as hell to pop each key off and slip on the o-rings. As a lesson in patience, it has few equals.
