Arlo and Flir FX Security Cameras

I'm researching an affordable security camera. I have a FOSCAM FI8910W I use right now, but it doesn't really do what I want.

Both of these sound interesting. Each has it's pros and cons. Both use the cloud for storage, have detection notification to mobile. One is indoor/outdoor and somehow runs on batteries for 6 months (!? need to research). One has internal SD card storage in addition to cloud. One uses IR to avoid false motion detection.

They also don't look to be terribly expensive. I'm think about getting a security camera. Thanks for the link.

What is it that you want? Or don't like about the Foscams? I have several Foscams and love them. Great quality and before I got to them I bought about 5 different cameras at the store and tried them all out.

BTW, a big plus is the fact that I run/control them with Blur Iris.

I have enough experience and servers that there's no way I'm going to pay any web cam company a monthly fee to use my cameras.

The Arlo comes with 7 days or 1GB cloud for free, and that's probably adequate for most people.

Issues I have are low framerate for one. Some one can walk briskly past my Foscam and be nearly out of the picture before I seem him. Also right now I have no practical storage/notification solution. I'd like to save a few days worth of motion detected video, but the only software I've found that works with my Foscams is pretty clunky and resource heavy. I have to run is on my workstation, and I get a ton of false positives.

I also find the loud relay in the camera when the IR light comes on extremely annoying, as it usually clicks on and off several times at dusk.

My problem is I'm using this cameraman in a patio with windows, and I eventually need another one outdoors pointing at my porch and driveway. I'm intrigued by the Arlo because it can run on batteries and is indoor/outdoor.

I have someone occasionally dumping behind my property, and I'm thinking of putting another camera in a tree which needs to be battery powered and has it's own memory card, but I think I'm going to use a deer/wildlife camera for that. They're camouflaged and specifically designed for that.

Yea definitely look into Blue Iris. I have mine send me emails/text messages when motion is detected. I can then open up their app on my phone and look at any of the cameras in real time. The streaming is great, just make sure you have a high definition camera. The ones I use are 1280x960p (FI9831W)

I guess the click can be annoying, but I only hear it when I turn on/off the lights. It's not like it's a constant clicking.

Interesting that I just spent the last couple days looking at security cameras. I haven't settled on anything yet.
