I'll NEVER say anything bad about Microsoft again!
Pretty Amazing
And I was thinking that I was the only one. Apperantly the Mice really do have a problem. I got my replacement a couple weeks ago as well... me to without a hitch and more speedy then expected.
A little follow up
Well... I opened my "broken" mouse and sure enough the culprit was a "broken" cable. I acctually never found the part that was broken. I did however cut out the whole cable part that was inside the mouse and just shortened the overall cable. Voila... it is working again.
So for all you folk that have the intermitten studder of the light... it might be worth the 30 minutes and you have another optical mouse working.

Karsten - I did the same thing. However, that's only because I'm an electronics tech and didn't mind doing it - it's a tedious job on those small wires.
Eventually all mice break an internal wire right where it enters the case - it's the point of highest stress.
Been using it just fine with a splice in it, but I felt I was entitled to a replacement (they have a lifetime warranty) and if they asked for the old one they could have it. Well they replaced it and didn't ask for the old one so now I have a spare

Sure thing!
Thanks for the clarification Penguin.
I didn't mean to say don't call it in. Heck yeah... get yourself a replacement!!!
But after you have it, fiddle arround with your old mouse and maybe you have a spare.... just like we have now!
