Am2

Post by RubberDuckie »

I was looking at upgrading and getting a dual core AMD ... I now see AM2. Is this with the nForce 5000 the newst and greatest thing or only CPUs I see are sempron and single core?

Whats up with the AM2?

it has something to do with using DDR2 on the onboard memory controller. looks like a socket 940, but will not fit in a socket 940.

i wouldn't expect there are a lot of boards out now that are compatible.

you could either wait it out or go for an opteron 165 or above. they are essentially the same as X2, but cost less and overclock well in the right environment.
