ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb is you're on a tight budget (this is the bare minimum card for decent gaming) - around $120. NOTE: This card is only available in AGP.

ATI Radeon x700 Pro would be the PCI-E equivalent of the 9800 Pro - around $120

Don't expect to be able to play an enjoyable game of BF2 or FEAR on either of these. If you're a serious gamer cough up a little more money for the following:

ATI Radeon x800 256Mb for what I would consider the best gaming experience for a reasonable money - around $175

Do yourself a favor and stick to either Genuine ATI or Sapphire (Sapphire makes ATI cards so they're identical). Everyone else tends to cut corners.

I'm not an NVidia expert, but they make some cards equivalent to these - I'm sure someone will post their recommendations.
