Questions on the delta 38cfm 60mm fan

Ok, I ordered the taisol heatsink that was reviewed by hardocp, and was the very best when paired ith a 7000rpm fan. Well I ordered it with the Delt 38cfm 60mm fan. I think this should be a pretty good cooler for my tbird 1200mhz no? Anyways, I was wondering just how loud these puppies are? I'm thinking that for surfing with no music, or watching DVD's I'm going to have to wire the fan for 7 volts. Any idea on how much quiter it will be and how much of a performance decrease there will be? Also I was wondering if you know of any crazy batartds tat ran this fan at 17 volts??? Would there be any performance increase in doing so? I know tat it would be REALLY loud at 17 volts,but if it will get my t-bird stable at 1250 or more during Q3 then it will be worth it to me. it's pretty loud - i took mine out and put an fop 32 in instead, it does cool very well. i read somewhere about a mod where you put in a rheostat so for surfing, etc, you run it at a lower rpm and then crank it up for games, where you won't hear it anyway - don't remeber where though - i do remember seeing those fanbus thingies with rheostats as well

Alpha pep66 w/ delta 30cfm fan and I can easily hear it with the case closed & headphones on (no music).

Actually if I leave my door open, and walk about 20 feet - then go downstairs (about 18 steps) I can hear it pretty well.

But after 3 hours of Quake 3 torture demos running in a loop I peak out at about 38C. P3 700@938.

well i think it would be a good idea to run it at the 17 volts if you have a loud game goin ( like you always do). but otherwise, i wouldnt use it that fast

You think that this fan would be able to take 17 volts??? I would like to run it at 7/17 at all times. Haha, I mean if its running at 12volts it will be loud enough to hear it unless I'm doin something loud, and anything that would drown out 12volts should also drown out 17. But for internet/DVDs I think 7 should be sufficient, no? A delta 38cfm running at 7 volts would be beter cooler than the default fan running at 12volts wouldn't it??
