Dell PSU

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

Hey Guys, are there any certain pins I should check on a DELL PSU to see if it's compatible with a standard mobo? I've got a rebuild I'm doing and I'm trying to avoid throwing a new PSU into it. All of the colors on the PSU wires match a standard PSUs colors.. I'm googling, but though if anybody knew right off the bat.. :)

Thanks!

i seem to recall it depends on the age of the machine..I believe the newer ones use standard pin-outs put th older ones do not = FP posted something on this recently

Yah, I didn't look too hard, I just busted out my multimeter and I checked the V on all 20 pins.. Fixing to check them against a standard ATX, this is an older machine, but I think I might have gotten lucky.. :D

Hmmm.. All of the pins matched up perfectly except for Pin 18, it read 0 (really 0.8) on the DELL PSU (Actually a Foxconn) and read +5v on the Standard ATX PSU.. It's +12v was also only registering about 10v so I'm guessing it's probably just that the PSU is on it's last leg so I may end up replacing it anyways.. Any thoughts? I'll dig for FPs post too..

Dell finally wised up and anything made in the last 2 years uses a standard ATX PSU but you need to be careful.

Here's a Dell PSU connector pinout diagram:

That image is SUPER helpful FP.. :) This one was build in 02 and has a standard PSU in it.. But the 12v was so low I went ahead and repalced it.. Took some modding on my part, but rather have it good now and not have to drive an hour both ways later to fix it. :)

Found it after a long Google search a while back when I was trying to fix an older Dell.

I'd swear that's the diagram I drew up years ago and sent to someone. Damned if I can remember who...
