Maxell CD's suck (and others)

Since I have a DvD burner, and 100 Taiyo Yuden blank DvD's, I decided to move my 120+ mp3 CD collection to DvD format. Most of the mp3 CD's that I have go back over 5/6 years ago to the Napster days.

Anyway, I've had several disks that won't read, and if it's read at all, its done very slowly. The disks that have failed to read completly are:
Maxell
IBM
Sony
TDK
Imation
These disks are placed back in their original cases and stored in a dry dark place. So just sitting there doing nothingh has caused the disks to slowly go bad.

Yup. I tranferred all my old MP3s from CD to DVD as well last year and I'd say out of 35 CDs maybe 6 had CRC errors and I couldn't read some of the files. And yeah, some were slow to read.

The problem is that the dye layer deteriorates.

I'm buying nothing by Taiyo Yudens from now on.

Yep those are the best DVD blanks on the market. Even though my burner is a dual layer with support for 8x, I got the 4x on clearance:

Yup. They're the best quality media on the market right now. They are used in SOME name brands, but since you can never be sure it's best to get them direct.

I've found on two seperate occasions TY 4x and 8x -R's had layer seperation in the center... the disc burns and reads fine, but it's discomforting to say the least.
I find the Verbatim DataLife Plus's sold at http://www.blankmedia.ca dont have this problem.

All I use is TY. I think I've been using TY blank CD-r's for almost 7-8 years now.
