Which P4 should I get?

Post by piyonerd »

Hi, I'm trying to decide which processor i should get from newegg. It seems that the P4 2.4 Ghz w/ HT has the most votes, followed by the P4 3.0 Ghz w/ HT and then the 2.8 Ghz w/ HT. There's some athlon XP's in i between the 3.0 and the Amd64 3000+. Should I just get one of the intels, the amd64, or a athlon xp 2100+?

A summarized view_________________________
- P4 2.4 Ghz w/ HT $148
-P4 3.0 Ghz w/HT $188
-P4 2.8 Ghz w/HT $199
-Amd 64 3000+ $149
-Athlon Xp 2100+ $89

Well, I presently run a P4 3.2 EE, Im very satisfied with the way its going, However if I were upgrading from an older configuration I would most likely go with and AMD 64, from all that I have came accross they give you most bang for your buck. Without looking at them I would say that the p4 chips are prescotts, which are hot as hell maybe something to look at. MY p4 was running pressty toasty, I p/u a nice antec case with nice airflow and now much better.

for straight out performance the A64 series is better and a little cooler than the high end p4's - the HT on the p4 is very nice if you do a lot of multitasking and keep lots of windows opend doing different things - instead of the 2100xp you might want to look at a 2600 +- sempron - those bundles are very cheap
