Just bought some new media testing out the burner on my laptop. It seems to work great. I was using some cheapie media (cant remember the brand name). Both movie and data backups read fine on my machine. The movie played fine in my year old jvc dvd player as well. BUT, neither the movies nor data backups will play in any other dvd drive I own. I've tested about 4 dvdrom drives with these backups and they wont read. Is it the media? Or is my dvdram drive fouling up?
I'm going to try to get my hands on some other media and see what happens.
Problem with dvd backups...

Normal dvd drives can't read dvd-ram unless they are made for it. So i assume your dvd player supports dvd-ram and since your laptop burns them it does too. Only solutoin is to get drives that can read them for the other computers or use a dvd+- r/rw drive.
You might have stated the wrong info, is your drive dvd-ram or dvd-r/rw(dvd+r/rw)
check for firmware upgrades on al ldrives that dont read them and burner.
