It's going but it's not gone yet. Fortunately I got it through Newegg so RMA is easy. Trouble is I have a LAN party coming up so I'll wait a few weeks and then pull the card out of the LAN party rig temporarily.

just email their service and ask if they can send you a new fan instead of RMAing the whole card. Just say you cant be without the card for a few weeks.
worked with gigabyte when my NB fan went out...cant see why ATI wouldnt do the same...
Gone for good. But never say never
I don't think Newegg is set up like that where they would send parts out.
That's a bummer FP. I have the 9800 Pro and I can't even hear my fan.

I can't f'ing believe it!
Fan was making occasional noise - you all know how a fan bearing will start to go and the fan rattles occasionally? Usually the thing will run for months like that - it's just not always running at max RPM all the time and the noise eventually drives you crazy. I figured I had some time, and I don't overclock. I turned off the Overdrive feature to let it run cooler.
Well yesterday morning the computer was locked up (it runs 24/7). Rebooted and within minutes it locks up again. Open it up and find that the fan on the 9800XT is DEAD. It's not seized up (spins very freely by hand) but it's not spinning.
WTF!??? A dead fan on a 2 month old card? I sure hope it's just an isolated case. The whole reason I buy ATI direct is for the better quality components. I EXPECT some cheap OEM board to have a crappy fan on it, but not a $400 card made by ATI.
Damn thing was hot as hell too. Someone please tell me why the hell the video processor needs to run so hot when you're NOT using 3D? I think these companies need to start designing these cards better.
I've got a spare 9800 non-pro sitting in here for now.
I'm sending the 9800XT to NewEgg for RMA replacement because it's a hell of a lot less aggravating dealing with them than it is with ATI for RMAs.

I have a 9800 non-pro that's been running forever with the original fan. However they changed the fan on the 9800XT to a larger one running at lower RPM. I wonder if they had some defective ones.

I personaly dont trust any fan smaller then 50x10mm. Anything smaller and its junk. thats why i love my vedio card. I put one of them huge ass Zalman heat pipe jobs and i never have to worry about it and i have it overclocked about as fast as it will go.
