Woot ! Got my Corsair ram today

Post by NascarFool »

I finally got some 512meg sticks that will run at the proper speed on my MSI K8T NEO FSR. Feels good to have a gig of ram again. Psssst . . . .ego, look down. I returned the borrowed ram to my XP2500+ machine and it's cranking out WU's again. It's been down for about a week now. ;)

I hear ya........Been playing teh mem game here myself with this crazy mobo. FINALLY hit on a winner today with 2 x 512MB Crucial with ELPIDA chips on it.

A few hours into prime95 now and it's runnin' super. :)

Here's what doesn't work on this mobo........

all in 2 x 512MB combinations...

Kingston HyperX PC4000
Buffalo Winbond BH-5
Buffalo Winbond CH-5
Mushkin Level One PC3500

Here's what does.........

2 x 256MB Twinmos Winbond CH5 PC3200
2 x 512MB Crucial PC3200 ( w/ ELPIDA mem chips )

........and what NascarFool is using.

Sounds silly to go thru all this just to get memory but if you've tried these mobos and see what they can do when they're running spot on, you'd understand. :D

Is it just me or does MSI have some real issues with memory compatibility? I know my buddy went thru hell with an NForce II mobo from MSI trying to find memory that would work.

nah, it's my A64 / MSI K8T Neo FIS2R.

Your mobo lives at Billygoat's house now. :D

Your CPU went out the door in a system build I did for a guy. :)

Dadx2mj,

Dunno about MSI mobos in general but I do know that this K8T 800 VIA chipset is about as picky for mem as ANY mobo I've ever used !!

Having said that, I'm crazy about the damn thing. Super stable, fast as heck and features up the wazoo !! :cool :

I've personally had nothing but problems with MSI, all the way back to the BX days.

Should probably clarify that the major difficulty was finding memory that will run in 2 x 512MB combos @ DDR400 / 200HTT or higher. :) Most single sided 2 x 256MB combos will run without a problem. It's when you get into double sided 512MB stix running together that things can be a bit dicey. Was just a matter of time and a few RMA's :D

Yeah, AM64 has issues with running memory dual channel. Glad to know you got it sorted out.

How does the system run? Is it worth the money?
