ByteCC ME-350U2 Aluminum 3.5" HDD External Enclosure

Post by seralin »

Hi,

I have a question. While installing this enclosure, I wanted to remove the power cable from its static place, and while using a knife to cut it, I accidentally cut a little on the side of the ide hard drive cable. I don't know how much it affects the drive, cause to try it, I connected the hard drive and it worked. As a precaution I want to buy an ide cable. I searched on the net to find a cable small enough to fit inside. I got no result. Do you know where I can find a short ide cable for it?

Thanks.

Check out http://www.svc.com for 4" round, single device IDE cables. Or, you can try cutting off one end (or the other) of an existing IDE ribbon cable - no guarantees on reliability here, but it should work and I have seen threads in various forums that claim it does work.
If you decide to make or modify your own cable, you should probably do some research at http://www.t13.org first. That is the web site for the official industry technical committee on ATA (also known as IDE). There are lots of doc*ments there - there should be information about how short you are allowed to make your IDE cable.
