i go to shut down screen in windows 2000 pro . hit shut down but the machines restart up .
this is doing this on both machines im running it on .
the Last time I was Talking to myself . I got into such a heated argument . that is why I swore I never talk to that guy again. you know what it worked now no buddy talking to me. :help

you mean it completly restarts?

or it just jumps right back to desktop after you click ok>shutdown?


If it just jumps to the desktop, it means you might have some other program, background app that isnt closing down. Check your processes tab in the Task manager and see if anything looks out of the ordinary

Check for spyware also

Not to crap on your thread, but I have the same problem with a laptop pc here at work running win98. It' shuts down, but then goes back to doing a warm boot and back to windows desktop.

This won't apply to 98 but it will apply to 2K and XP. A driver or app may be causing an error on shutdown. Additionally you may have this setting turned on: in the Startup and Recovery settings (right-click My Computer, properties) you may have "Automatically restart" checked under the System Failure options. Uncheck it.

Now when you shut down you might actually see an error message that will give you some idea of what's wrong.
