will a DVD +rw be ok?

Post by BillyGoat »

Hello,
My wife and I are strapped for cash this year and dont have much foe xmas. I really want a dvd burner but my wife wont have a extra 100 - 150 for a dual format one. She can get a clearance HP one for 60.00 out the door, no rebates but its only +rw not also -
I read that +rs are compatable in about 88% of dvd players while _rs are in about 93%
Is there are other major differeneces, will this drive get me by making home movies until 6-8 months when i can get a dual format... are there any other pros or cons

Thanks

in latest reviews they claim Plus(+) is more compatible then Minus(-).(but minus apparently is better in older generation DVD players)
Next year BenQ is releasing a dvd9 burner, which is when the dvd9 media will also be out.

Any DVD player made in the last 3 years will play a DVD+. Some that are older won't.

Anything can play DVD-R but it's looking like the DVD+R is going to be the accepted standard.

There's a DVD+ compatability list online where you could check if a certain DVD-ROM or DVD player works with DVD+ media, you can find it right here.
