Backup question

Trying to backup on an external hard drive, when using the xp way it says it can't copy more than 4 GB to the hard drive because it's 'fat' formatted and not ntfs. So if I format it to ntfs, will that erase the files on that hard drive?

Never used ntfs so I am clueless.


Also, if using ghost is the ghost image compressed, or the full file size?

I you format the drive you will lose the info. I believe you can convert the drive in XP and not lose any data but I am not sure how to go about doing that. Ghost does compress the file size to roughly half of the full size.

convert *:\

A: Standard Windows utility that is called CONVERT serves this purpose

Just go to the Command Prompt and execute the command:

C:\> CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs

Where C: is a name of the drive you want to convert.

After machine re-boot conversion process will start and you'll have your FAT32 converted to NTFS without of data loss.

Yes you can convert it to NTFS with no data loss.

Go to "RUN" and type in ---> convert D: /fs:ntfs

Substitute D with the correct drive letter. It will convert on the next reboot.
