Anyone recommend a good 18 -19" LCD Monitor?

Has to have a decent response time - it's for gaming and Photoshop work as well.

Been looking at the Samsung 192N. I like the fact that the border around the screen is very narrow: http://www.techforless.com/cgi-bin/tech ... &mv_pc=319

Response time is a so-so 25ms though. Acceptable but there's better.

Don't want to spend TOO much more than $600 though.

FP, is a 17" LCD too small for what you need?

If not, I can recommend the Viewsonic VP171b. It has a 16ms response time and I have never noticed any ghosting in any of my games (Quake 3, UT2K3, Call of Duty, etc.) or on DVDs. It also has 2 analog connections and 1 digital connection (I forget the exact name of it) Currently, I am running off the digital connection hooked up to my Leadtek GeForce 4 Ti4400. The monitor has a native resolution of 1280 x 1024, but I have no problems playing games set at 1024 x 768.

I bought mine at New Egg for about $500 back in the Spring and right now they are going for $519.00 with a $20.00 rebate.

Using a 19" CRT now with an actual viewable image size of 18" so I probably don't want to go to small, but I'll look at it. I like the response time.

i've been using the Samsung SyncMaster 191T for months...and love it. you're right, the frame is very thin on the samsungs...and the adjustable stand is nice. i don't even know what the response time is on it (but 25ms sounds about right, like the model you're looking at). newegg has it for $610 or something.

no problem with games or video for me, but i am not as much of a gamer as i used to be.

I have an 18" Ultrasharp from Dell and I love it......their really not that expensive IMO.I gave around 450.00 for this one some time ago...BOUGHT 2 FOR 900.00 ...Don't know about ghosting though cause I'm not a big gamer ANYMORE

I was doing some research on this last night and came across the Planar PL191M:

Seems to get very high marks in most areas except the OSD (how often do you use those though). The cheapest I found was Dell for ~$585.

Something interesting.... Dells ultra sharp series uses samsung TFTs. They put it in their own case however, and the sides are much thiker than the samsung native case. We are upgrading our old NEC15in LCDs with Samsung 170N, 17in lcds. They are very nice screens. Only complaint is they are only analog in, no DVI. You should go for a DVI input.

i just picked up another monitor for home...a samsung 174v. it's a 17" w/ 25ms recharge rate. it works fine for standard stuff (have it running my 2003 server test domain so no gaming tried on it yet).

samsung rules!

I've got the Dell 18" version, used it for close to a year now. No complaints, very little ghosting from what I've seen. It's 25 ms I think.
