Basically, Thermalright realizes the SLK900 doesn't fit all mobo's, so they did a redesign. A trimmed down SLK900 that will still fit 92MM fans, but should fit on any mobo that a SLK800 fits. Weighs about the same as a SLK800 at 527g. And it will have a 3-prong clip instead of bolting to the mobo.

" While in attempt to achieve high performance and low noise, SLK-900U had no comparable rivals in the current market. However its unique fin orientation and the complexity of installation had pushed many enthusiasts away. The design concept for the SLK-900A was to match the performance/noise ratio of SLK-900U, while make it more users friendly and better compatible for Socket A motherboards. With these perimeters in mind, our engineers went back to drawing board.
"The total fin area on SLK-900A is virtually unchanged from SLK-900U, this ensured great thermal dissipation from SLK heritage and superior thermal capacity, meanwhile the angular base has been redesign to better guide the blow down air current to every fin and reduce back pressure to extend the MTBF for the fans while decrease the center of mass, said Chief RD Engineer Scott , "by rotate the fin orientation we effectively avoid just about all the capacitors previously would get on the way, and our 6 prong heat sink clip will hold this mammoth on the CPU socket closely on the CPU die." By using 92mm fan, users can move same or more CFM of cool air thru the HSF to cool down their scorching CPU, while the fan rotates in much lower rpm to reduce noise.
The weight on SLK-900A Heatsink body is roughly the same as SLK-800 due to redesigned base plate. User can enjoy the ease of installation without worrying heatsink falling off CPU socket."
